Mission 66 is a systematic Bible-study series that is fast becoming beloved by TWR listeners around the world. This thorough survey of the whole Bible with its clear teaching was first developed by Luiz Sayão of TWR Brazil. It leads listeners through all 66 books of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. The 613 episodes (396 Old Testament and 217 New Testament) help listeners better understand Scripture, and each 30-minute broadcast ends with a life application capturing the core lesson. Mission 66 gives the unreached a hunger for God’s Word as they grow in biblical understanding and intimacy with God. Pastors who have no biblical training use Mission 66 to prepare doctrinally sound teaching. In addition to the original Portuguese programs airing in Brazil and Africa, translations are airing in Mandarin, Spanish, English, and Indonesian.

Mission 66 is Davies’ first experience in Christian broadcasting. The son and grandson of preachers, Davies spent 14 years as an anchor at Sky Sports and Sky News in the United Kingdom and is currently hosting a news and current affairs program for the BBC. When he left Sky, it was to work at a Christian organization for the homeless, but he found himself convicted, he said, about the 3.2 billion people in the world who are still unreached for Christ. Exploring ways he could be used in missions, he reached out to Lauren Libby, then president of TWR, who connected him with Jon Fugler, TWR’s chief content officer. Eventually, Davies was asked to audition for the Mission 66 role.

Unathi is a relative veteran of Christian broadcasting. She started volunteering at TWR Africa in 2015 at a friend’s invitation. She first helped with a one-hour Christian hip-hop show called the Urban Hour and then co-hosted Equipped for Life, another program geared toward youth. After a year, TWR Africa hired her as a full-time presenter. That has led to a number of projects, including Worship ConneXion, a three-hour music show featuring interactions with listeners.
One day, Hollinger sent her a script and asked if she would record it. She did, Sithole said, but didn’t think of it as an audition and didn’t give it much thought. Not long after that, Hollinger informed her that she was on the “short list.”
“Ultimately, they let me know that I got the part as Esther for Mission 66, and at that point, I don’t think I was really aware of the impact that this program would have,” she said.
