In 1967, Richard was invited to preach a few messages for a new radio programme called The Living Word, which marked the humble beginnings of his radio ministry. Unknown to him and Dorothy, Dr Paul Freed, founder of Trans World Radio (TWR), had been listening to these broadcasts. In 1969, after recognising Richard’s voice at church, Dr Freed encouraged him to start his own weekly broadcasts on TWR.
Following prayer and trusting in God’s guidance from Isaiah 61:8, Richard launched The Way of Truth radio programme. Operating under their New Jersey-based organisation, Missionary Radio Incorporated, the ministry expanded and was renamed Cross Currents International Ministries in 1980.
Through their Cross Currents International Ministry, Richard and Dorothy have extended their conference work to new countries, especially developing nations, where they have met many spiritually hungry people amid poverty and hardship. Motivated by God’s love, they have provided both spiritual and material support. Their ministry also reaches industrialised nations, where many seek a deeper relationship with God.
Dr Richard A. Bennett, a respected British preacher and author, was known for his profound biblical insights, heartfelt prayers, and passionate expository teaching. Having received Christ at 19, he left a secure secular job to devote his life fully to ministry. Together with his wife Dorothy, he ministered internationally, encouraging persecuted Christians in regions such as the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and Uganda. He authored more than eight books, including ‘Food for Faith’ and ‘Your Quest for God’.
Richard’s ministry reached audiences across the British Isles, Europe, Africa, and beyond, often through partnerships with Trans World Radio. He and Dorothy’s decades of faithful service left a lasting legacy of mentoring and inspiring believers worldwide. Dr Bennett passed away in January 2023, survived by Dorothy and their extended spiritual family, leaving behind a profound impact through his teaching and ministry.
